Arranging a Measurement

First draft version - 16 Feb

You should start to arrange a measurement not later than 6 months before the race. If you leave it much later you may find it difficult to locate a nearby measurer who has free time to measure. Also many measurers prefer measuring in good weather and daylight, and prefer to avoid the depths of winter, unless the course is particularly easy to ride, or there only a minor adjustment to be carried out to a previously measured course.

Your first step is to look at the map of measurers and locate a measurer to approach. When you click on the wheel on the map, you will get a page with the measurer's contact details, and also a detailed list of things you need to do before actually contacting the measurer. These include:

  1. Select a safe course and measure it as accurately as you can. (Use an OS 1:25000 map, a bike, a GPS, or, worst, a car)
  2. Prepare a course map
  3. Notify the police and follow any safety recommendations

If you have difficulty finding measurer, contact the Measurement Secretary for the area of England in which the race is to be held (see the map for the area boundaries).
